Reports

Over the years, the Akali Tange Association has published many reports detailing the human rights situation in Porgera, Papua New Guinea. In 2005, they issued a report called “The Shooting Fields of Porgera Joint Venture,” which alerted the international community to the gross human rights violations happening at the Porgera Mine, then owned by Canadian mining company Placer Dome. The report documented incidents of killings (14, of which 11 were by shooting), torture, arbitrary arrest, and beatings by the mine’s security forces.

Since that time, ATA has continued to document abuses around the Porgera Mine.
